The Notice of Race for the 2021-2022 season is now available:

  • 16 October 2021: Metro Series Heat 1, RPYC
  • 30 October 2021: Metro Series Heat 2, RPYC (Max Hayes memorial trophy)

  • 11 December 2021: Metro Series Heats 4 & 5, RPYC windward/leeward races
  • 22 January 2022: Metro Series Heat 6, RFBYC
  • 19 February 2022: Metro Series Heat 7, SoPYC
  • 19 March 2022: Metro Series Heat 8, RFBYC

Metro series 2020-2021 overall results

The Farr 9.2 Association held its annual Prize Night on Saturday the 4th of September at the Fremantle Annexe of The Royal Perth Yacht Club.

Final results and trophies were presented for the 2021 State Championship, the 2020-2021 Metro Series overall results and also for the various special races we have throughout the season.

Results for Metro Series heat 8

Heat 8 for the Farr 9.2 Swan River Metro Series was held on the 17th of April, 2021, at Royal Perth Yacht Club. This was the last race of the series, and also our all-important Allan Coutts Memorial Trophy race; in honour of Allan and his lasting impression on the fleet.

State Championships 2021 results

The Farr 9.2 State Championships for 2021 were held in Rockingham over the last weekend of March. With last year’s event cancelled due to Covid, it was great to be back racing in the sound. The conditions kept everyone thinking, with shifts, lulls and a drop in wind on Sunday.

Several competitors were looking to be in contention over the weekend, with some very close photo finishes. The final Championship winner was Itinerant, followed by Farrlap in second and Lionheart third.

Results for Metro Series heat 7

Unfortunately, race 6 of the metro series was abandoned due to a snap lockdown, so we’re straight on to result for heat 7!

Like previous years, this heat was held at Claremont Yacht Club as part of their Commodore’s Cup event. With three laps around Freshwater Bay, the race is usually a test of solid crew coordination for quick sail changes, and managing shifty conditions around the bay.

Elusive did a fantastic job of working through the fleet, to finish first over the line after a steady series of overtakes! Well done to the team for some great racing.

Notice of Race, Farr 9.2 State Championships 2021

The Farr 9.2 Association is pleased to announce the Notice of Race for the 2021 Farr 9.2 State Championships, to be held on the 27th and 28th of March 2021, at The Cruising Yacht Club (TCYC) in Cockburn Sound.

Racing will be held over two days, with plenty of social events happening at the club over the weekend.

Results for Metro Series heat 5

Heat five of the Farr 9.2 Metro Series had the fleet sailing out of Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, in a fresh south-westerly. Significant variations in wind direction kept the boats busy watching for the next shift, and the three upwind reaches provided plenty opportunities to make use of them.

Final placings were decided on the last leg of the course, with Itinerant and Farrlap in a duel, tacking their way up to the RFBYC finish line. Well done to the teams racing!

Results for Metro Series heat 4

Heat four of the Farr 9.2 Metro Series had the fleet back at Royal Perth Yacht Club, for their Saturday Summer season course. While the winds were somewhat similar to the classic sea breeze, they carried a little more westerly than usual, and a greater variation in strength. A few of the boats picked up on this early, managed to bear-away-set their kites at the windward marks, and were well-rewarded with a fast run downwind.

Results for Metro Series heat 3

The third head of the Farr 9.2 Metro series had the fleet back at South of Perth Yacht Club, for a day of fantastic sailing conditions – a south-westerly of 15-20 knots, building slightly over the afternoon, with some gradual variations in direction.

Although the course was the same as last heat, the slightly-more-westerly breeze kept the teams on their toes, as some of the usual kite runs became a little less downwind than expected. The order of the leading boats was decided on how long each could keep their kites up (and stable!) on these shy runs, with Farrlap sneaking past Itinerant, into the lead, keeping ahead until the finish.

Results for Metro Series heat 2

The  second heat of the Farr 9.2 Metro series, hosted by South of Perth Yacht Club, had the fleet sailing in fantastic summer conditions, with a decent breeze from the south west.

With a solid start, Seahawk took the initial lead, with Itinerant following closely behind. Not far back, the rest of the fleet swapped positions all throughout the race, each making best use of the slight wind shifts down-river. The leading pair kept together right until the finish, with less than a boat-length separating the two across the line, after two-and-three-quarter hours of racing! Well done to all.
